Today’s Good News: Teacher Builds Desks For Students

A seventh grade literacy teacher in Iowa stepped in to fill a need he saw with students who are doing remote learning. Nate Evans noticed some kids in online classes didn’t have a desk to do school work on, so he started building them for them. His project has become “Woodworking with a Purpose” and he now has over 50 volunteers helping and they’ve built around 600 desks. Source: ABC News

Volunteers have been working hard to clean up the Tennessee River, one of the dirtiest in the country. Folks with Keep the Tennessee River Beautiful and Johnsonville State Historic Park removed more than 9-thousand pounds of trash. They spent three days on the cleanup and this follows a previous cleanup in October, when they collected nearly 5-thousand pounds of trash from the river. Source: CNN

A teacher in Pennsylvania is using his stimulus payment to set a good example by helping his students. Matthew Pierce teaches at Milton Hershey School and decided to solve one day’s problems for his students’ families. He spent the money buying Uber Eats gift cards to provide them with a meal. Source: Fox 43
